Along the G-Line

A boy does cartwheels along the UN-controlled buffer zone in Nicosia. What seems like a cheerful game acquires a disturbing quality given the location of the activity. The movement of the body through the successive images marks points on a line parallel to that of the political border. Through this odd juxtaposition, the jumping boy becomes a pseudo yardstick that measures out a place marred by conflict and trauma in a ‘different’ way. The linear and patriarchal logic of borders, control, and domination are hereby challenged.
