Los Amarillos is an experimental fiction video, based on the authors’ biographical facts, that tells the story of two individuals who are alienated because of their adherence to antiretroviral therapy for HIV/AIDS patients in Bogotá, Colombia. Through poetry and a cascade of surreal landscapes and abstracted bodies, Los Amarillos visualises the side effects that some people living with HIV in Colombia face due to low-cost antiretroviral drugs. Among the many side effects of these drugs, jaundice (yellowing of the skin) is so common for HIV+ people in Colombia that it can act as a visible marker of HIV status, exposing people living with the virus to stigma and ostracisation.
Commissioned in 2022 as part of BEING AND BELONGING for Visual AIDS Day With(out) Art 2022, it is a programme of videos highlighting community care strategies within the ongoing HIV epidemic.
