Eastmans Reisen

A rucksack is hanging on the wall, next to it a mirror that later becomes a projection screen. A proper break while travelling on one of Eastmann’s (!) journeys. The film continues with the ruins of a house, documenting its decay with stop-motion technology, whip pans and fast zooms. Back in the alpine hut, which is now fluorescent blue, the image of a forest landscape in the mirror is replaced by a porn blowjob, the bird sounds fall silent, and two men talk about trying to hit on a woman in a bar. A song from the 50s/60s is playing, which is about a prostitute (Leila!). Slowly, the image begins to rotate, and another song about “the dreams of the squaddie” starts to play. As it rotates, the image is duplicated several times, changing colour, and taking on an almost abstract quality. A poem about the German forest follows as an epilogue – in the picture, an already badly ruffled pine tree. What has become of the German oak? Instead, a well-known quote from the film Casablanca.
